At the 128th Annual Ohio Society SAR Awards Banquet on May 6th, 2017 in Blue Ash, Ohio, Compatriot James D. Schaffer was awarded the Samuel Hubbard Scott Medal. Schaffer, President of the Ohio Society SAR from 2015 – 2016 and current National Trustee, was selected for this award by compatriots who have received the award in the past. The award was presented to him by Compatriot Steven R. Kelley, recipient of the award in 2016.
Samuel Hubbard Scott, compatriot from Toledo, Ohio, was an exemplar of those qualities sought in an outstanding compatriot, and was the namesake of the award. It is the highest and most prestigious recognition awarded by the Ohio Society. This special award was presented for the first time at the 1979 Conference in Cleveland.
Schaffer, of West Chester, Ohio, has been a member of the Sons of the American Revolution since 2006. In his remarks to the audience, he stated that he was deeply humbled by this award, and values the friends that he has made in the organization and throughout the state.
