Marietta Chapter SAR Supports Local Eagle Scout Candidate – Marietta, OH
On March 9, 2017 at the regular meeting of the Marietta Chapter SAR, Eagle Scout Candidate Isaiah C. Hutchings received a donation from the Chapter for his Eagle Scout Project involving the refurbishment and restoration of monuments and headstones in the Rainbow Cemetery, which was established in 1789 in Muskingum Township, Washington County, Ohio.
Hutchings is the son of Todd and Allie Hutchings, and is a member of the Allohak Council Boy Scout Troop 207 in Marietta, Ohio. Troop 207 is chartered by the American Legion Post #64, also of Marietta.
The project involves the transcription of the legible headstones and photo-documentation of each headstone for entry in the Billiongraves.com registry of graves. The effort will also include the identification of U.S. Military service veterans from the Revolutionary War to the current conflicts with appropriate decorations of service markers and U.S. Flags.
The community of Rainbow emerged as an early outpost on the west side of the Muskingum River, a few miles upstream of the historic Northwest Territory settlement of Marietta.
