Western Reserve Society SAR Celebrates Washington’s 285 Birthday – Cleveland, OH
On Saturday, February 18, 2017, over one hundred SAR members, wives and guests from over twenty Patriotic and Historical organizations gathered to celebrate George Washington’s 285th Birthday. The Western Reserve Society SAR luncheon was held at Shaker Heights Country Club. It was a beautiful sunny day! President William Shanklin welcomed everyone who had gathered for the event.
The WRS Archibald Willard Color Guard included Commander John Franklin, Lee MacBride, Galen Swab, Stan Thomas, Scott Glasgow, and Claude Custer, who presented the colors. 1st Vice President, J. Attlee Horner III led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Fox 8 News Anchor, Todd Meany, sang the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful where everyone joined in. The colors were then posted. The invocation was given by Rev. David Foster.
After lunch, Professor A. Gregory Moore, Ph.D. from Notre Dame College gave a very informative power point presentation on “Washington’s Spies.” Moore told that Washington knew the importance of good intelligence in order to help win the War for Independence.
WRSSAR Chaplain, Austin Shaw, gave the benediction. Afterward the Archibald Willard Color Guard retired the colors. What a great afternoon!
