Western Reserve Society SAR Participates in Veterans Day Program At Cleveland, OH City Hall
On Friday November 11, 2016, the Western Reserve Society color guard participated in the Veterans Day Program that was sponsored by the Joint Veterans Council of Cuyahoga County and co-hosted by the city’s Base Cleveland Veterans Committee and Cuyahoga Community College. There were more than 150 people filling the City Hall rotunda for Cleveland’s annual Veterans Day salute.
The highlight of the event was the award presented to WEWS Channel 5 newscaster Leon Bibb, the JVCOCC Judge Felix T. Matia, Veteran Honoree Award, for his service to our country and his service to Cleveland, Ohio. Leon is a newscaster for WEWS Channel 5 in Cleveland, who served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. Bibb talked about his service in Vietnam during his remarks and noted, ”I don’t think I did anything special. I only did what was asked of me.” He looked back to President Abraham Lincoln’s comments at Gettysburg more than a century ago, about the soldiers who ”gave the last full measure.”
”That’s what I think of on Veterans Day,” Bibb said. ”I think of those who are still here, and those who didn’t come back.”
After the ceremony, WRS color guardsmen: Galen Swab, John Franklin, and Lee MacBride congratulated Leon Bibb and his wife Marguerite for their service.
