Western Reserve Society SAR Flag Day Dinner 2016 – Cleveland, OH
On June 16, 2016 the Western Reserve Society held its Annual Flag Day Dinner meeting at the Union Club of Cleveland with a group of about 40 SAR members and guests. Vice President Bill Lentz asked Lee MacBride of The Archibald Willard Color Guard to post the colors to open the program. Lentz welcomed everyone and gave a short history of the American Flag.
After dinner, Vice President Bill Lentz introduced our Flag Award Chairman Ted Minier to present a Flag Certificate to Barbara and Jim Behling of Hudson, Ohio for their proper display of the American Flag.
Then Membership Chairman Ted Minier inducted new members Judge Raymond Pianka and Brian Walker and presented each of them with their rosette.
Vice President Bill Lentz then introduced the speaker, Colonel Ed Horvath, M.D., Army Reserve Medical Corps, Chief Physician 256th Combat Support Hospital. Horvath spoke about “Good Medicine in Bad Places.” This was about the Mash-type hospital units in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Ed Horvath gave a graphic but up-lifting account of what our U.S. Army Combat Support Hospitals do to help bring our soldiers home and also giving assistance to the local people in the areas that he was stationed. Bill Lentz then presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Colonel Ed Horvath, M.D.
