Ohio Society SAR Compatriots Receive Recognition at Annual Awards Banquet

At the 127th Ohio Society SAR Annual Awards Banquet, a number of Ohio Society SAR compatriots were recognized by State President James D. Schaffer for dedicated service during his administration.  Prior to leaving office, Schaffer honored those who provided valuable service to him and to the Society.

LtoR: James D. Schaffer; Col. (Ret) Donald C. McGraw, Jr.

Compatriot Donald C. McGraw, Jr., was presented with the SAR State Medal of Distinguished Service.  This medal is the highest that can be awarded by a State Society President, who can only present one during his term.  It is in recognition for conspicuous service to the Ohio Society.

Compatriots L. Stephen Hinson and Lance E. Beebe were presented with the SAR Patriot Medal.  This medal is presented for long, faithful, and outstanding service to the Ohio Society.

LtoR: James D. Schaffer; Joseph W. Dooley; Ted M. Minier (Receiving Award For Douglas M. Dechert)

SAR Meritorious Service Medals were presented to Compatriot Douglas M. Dechert and Past President General Joseph W. Dooley for their faithful and meritorious service.
The Silver Roger Sherman Medal is awarded in recognition and appreciation of outstanding services rendered.  The recipient must have served as an active officer for a minimum of two years, as an active committee chairman for three years, or as an active member of a committee for four years.  Recognized with this medal were Compatriots  Shawn A. Cox, Paul M. Wilke; Donald C. McGraw, Jr., James E. Dunn; William A. Robinson; Richard L. Hartinger; James O. Fast; William E. Huber; Larry R. Perkins; George R. Ruch; Terry A. Whetstone; Daniel J. Haas; Troy Bailey; Richard L. Carr, Jr.; Richard L. Fetzer; and Ted M. Minier.
Receiving recognition for outstanding personal service exemplifying the finest American ideals were Compatriots Michael J. Blum; Michael B. Gunn; John H. Bredenfoerder; Turner Lee Wilkerson III; William H. Diehl; Charles E. Finley; Dr. James D. River; Larry R. Perkins; Steven E. Frash; Daniel M. Matheke; Timothy E. Ward; Elwin L. Spray; John H. Franklin, Jr.; and Ted M. Minier.  These members were awarded the SAR Distinguished Service Certificate.
During his opening remarks of the banquet, Schaffer stated “Those SAR members who unselfishly offered their time and talent in the furtherance of our mission will be recognized for their commitment to our organization.  The SAR presents medals and certificates that extend the Society’s appreciation for dedicated service to the SAR.  These awards tonight are those for service to the Ohio Society during the 2015 – 2016 leadership term”.
