Ohio Society SAR Plans New Chapter in Southwest Ohio
The Ohio Society Sons of the American Revolution has been actively recruiting new members in the Adams, Brown, and Highland Counties of Southwest Ohio in hopes of organizing a new chapter. On March 26, 2016, the formation of this chapter took a huge leap forward when an organizational meeting was held in Hillsboro, Ohio in Highland County at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall.
The meeting was well attended by a crowd of over 40 SAR members and others interested in membership. Representing the Ohio Society were State President James D. Schaffer, Secretary Donald C. McGraw, and Directors at Large Paul M. Wilke and Tony Robinson. Also present and assisting were Cincinnati Chapter President Michael B. Gunn, and Compatriots Ian M. Cunningham and Erv Chaney who are serving as mentors. Several members of the Cincinnati Chapter were present to show their support for the prospective chapter. During the recruitment process, new members have been placed into the Cincinnati Chapter in anticipation of this new chapter. The colors were presented by the Cincinnati Chapter’s Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard, being commanded by OHSSAR Color Guard Commander Tony Robinson.
The meeting included the induction of seven new members into the Ohio Society. They will begin their transfer to the new chapter after a charter is issued by the state society. Information on the history, mission, and objectives of the SAR was presented, as well as details on national, district, state, and chapter events and activities. An outline was provided on the various contests and scholarships for area youths, public servants, and outstanding citizens that are offered by the SAR.
The Ohio Society looks forward to seeing this new chapter awarded its charter and begin to engage and interact in the communities of Adams, Brown, and Highland Counties.
