Ohio Society Children of the American Revolution’s 80th State Conference
On March 4-5, 2016, the Ohio Society Children of the American Revolution (OSCAR) held their 80th State Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin, Ohio. The Children of the American Revolution is America’s oldest, largest, patriotic youth organization, and offers membership to anyone under the age of 21, lineally descended from someone who served in the Continental Army or gave material aid to the cause of freedom in the American Revolution.
The event, hosted by OSCAR President Alexis Mehl and OSCAR Senior President Brenda Cooper, included reports from state societies, officers, and chairmen at the business meeting. Elections were held for both the state officer positions as well as their senior counterparts.
At the banquet on the evening of Saturday, March 5th, greetings were brought to the group by Ohio Society DAR State Regent Sandra McCann, and Ohio Society SAR State President James D. Schaffer. President Schaffer presented medals and certificates to Ms. Mehl and Ms. Cooper for their support to the SAR, and gave contributions from the Ohio Society SAR to incoming OSCAR President Brett Mahoney in support of their society and his president’s project.
The banquet concluded with the induction of new officers, except for the president and senior president who will be inducted at the C.A.R. National Conference in April. There, Mr. Brett Mahoney will be installed as OSCAR president, and Ms. Jennifer Apthorpe as senior president. Ohio Society SAR Compatriot William A. “Tony” Robinson was inducted as the OSCAR senior vice-president.
