Western Reserve Society Veterans Day Program – Cleveland, Ohio
On Veterans Day November 11th, The Western Reserve Society SAR and the Moses Cleveland Chapter DAR held a joint meeting at the Union Club of Cleveland. The Archibald Willard Color Guard posted the colors to open the program. Pat Gaskins, Registrar and Chaplain of Moses Cleveland Chapter gave the invocation. SAR President David Foster of the Western Reserve Society and DAR Regent Jenny Jones of Moses Cleveland Chapter welcomed everyone to this joint event. Compatriot Chief Petty Officer Gerald Murphy(RT) held the POW/MIA remembrance.
The keynote speaker was U.S. Army Bronze Star recipient and a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, Lt. Col. Matthew K. Johnson. Lt. Col. Johnson spoke about his service in Afghanistan and Iraq, with the “Screaming Eagles” of the 101st Airborne. He is now Professor of Military Science at John Carroll University and oversees the JROTC programs at John Carroll and Kent State Universities.
WRS honored Compatriot William Donley, who fought in WWII and the Korean War, and then recognized and thanked all veterans who served our country.
