Patriotism Thrives at the Brown County Fair – Georgetown, Ohio
Compatriot Ian Cunningham of the Cincinnati Chapter SAR was a guest of the Ripley – Lieutenant Byrd Chapter of the DAR in the Brown County Fair Parade on Monday, September 28th, 2015. Guests of honor on the parade float were five U.S. military veterans. The parade is the kick-off event for the Brown County Fair, which is held in the last week of September. The week long event, known as the “Little State Fair”, is held at the Brown County Fairgrounds in Georgetown, the county seat and childhood home of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States.
Compatriot Cunningham, the 1st Vice-President of the Cincinnati Chapter SAR and a resident of Brown County, has been actively engaged in recruiting new SAR members in the Adams, Brown, and Highland Counties for several months in an effort to start a new chapter of the Ohio Society SAR in this southwest part of the state. Developing strong ties with established DAR chapters is an excellent way to generate interest in the shared patriotic objectives of both organizations.
