Northeastern Ohio Chapter SAR to Honor Revolutionary War Patriots – Ashtabula County, Ohio
The Northeastern Ohio Chapter Sons of the American Revolution (NEOSAR) will be holding grave marking and memorial ceremonies for 5 Revolutionary War patriots at the Ashtabula Chestnut Grove Cemetery. The ceremonies will be held at approximately 3:00 pm on Sunday July 5, 2015 and will be held in conjunction with a cemetery tour being held by the Ashtabula County Historical Society. The Cemetery Tour will begin at 2:00 pm at the upper level of the cemetery with the Grave Marking Ceremony immediately following the tour at the upper level.
Families of the patriots and community are invited to attend both functions.
Patriots to be honored at the grave marking are Nathan Strong, Moses Hall, Abner Gage, Isaac Hubbard and John Watrous.
The grave marking memorial ceremonies will last 20-25 minutes and will be led by members of the NEOSAR. The ceremonies will include brief addresses, dedication of markers, color guard in revolutionary period uniforms and clothing, placement of wreaths, taps, vocal music and bagpipes.
The patriots being honored served at various phases of the Revolutionary war from 1775 to 1783. Like Nathan Strong who on April 18 and 19, 1775 was one of the alarm riders at Lexington warning townspeople and minutemen the British troops were coming.
