Lafayette Presidents’ Day Luncheon – Akron
On Saturday, February 14, 2015, over 26 SAR members, wives and guests braved the cold and snowy day to attend the Lafayette Chapter Presidents Day Luncheon Meeting at the Fairlawn Country Club. The combined Lafayette Chapter and Western Reserve Society color guard, made up of John Franklin commander, Lee MacBride, James Glasgow, Scott Glasgow and Claude Custer posted and retired the colors for the event. Lafayette member James F. Glasgow, Scott and James dad, gave the presentation on “Words of Support Printed on Continental and Colonial Currency 1775-1780.” From his personal collection, Glasgow displayed original notes and currency from the Revolutionary era. Paul Morehouse from the Lafayette Chapter presented a Flag Award to Sandy Porter from the Van Devere Auto Group, who displays a huge American flag at their dealership, which you can see a mile down on the freeway.
New Lafayette Chapter members Anthony Scott Manna and Anthony Sylbert Manna were inducted by David Allison, president of the Lafayette Chapter with assistance from compatriots Scott and James Glasgow, DAR Barbara Griffith, and OHSSAR President Ted Minier.
Ted M. Minier presented the SAR Daughters of Liberty Medal and Certificate to Barbara C. Griffith from the DAR, for all that she has done to help the SAR with new members and applications.
