Honoring Compatriot Byron – Columbus

Martin “Marty” Byron, 74, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014. Martin was born on September 30, 1940, to Arthur and Weltha (Welch) Byron and is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Andrea Slatko; sisters, Virginia Murray and Marjorie Madrue; brother, Howard “Vance” Morrow. Marty is survived by his wife of 47 years, Meredith (Miller) Byron; daughter, Theresa (Kurt) Williams; grandchildren, Brittany Jock, Courtney Jock, Zachary Harber, Jacob Slatko and many friends. Marty worked for GE for 30 years. He served proudly with the US Navy.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Union Veterans. He was a charter member of the Hocking Valley Chapter in Lancaster and active in its color guard unit. He was also a plural member of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter in Columbus.  In addition he was active with the Sons of Union Veterans, Governor William Dennison Camp #1.  Color Guard members from both the SAR and SUV were honor guard at the funeral.
