Wreaths Across America at the Statehouse – Columbus
Wreaths Across America will place tens of thousands of evergreen wreaths at Veterans tombstones on the second Saturday of December – the Thirteenth this year. Fifty-three cemeteries across Ohio will receive wreaths. Over 150,000 wreaths will be placed in Arlington National Cemetery, across from Washington DC on that Day.
As part of the week long preparation, on Monday, December 8th in all 50 Statehouses across the nation ceremonies were held to recognize the sacrifice and service of our military and their families. In Columbus a similar ceremony was held in the Atrium of the Ohio Statehouse. Gold Star Mothers of Ohio were present to dedicate the armed services wreath. Ted Minier, Ohio Society SAR President made the keynote address focusing on the numbers of veterans and thanking them for their service. The Ohio National Guard presented the Colors.
Special recognition goes to Ian Cunningham of the Cincinnati Chapter who has been the contact and planner of the Statehouse event for the last two years. Bob Davis of Hocking Valley was the American Revolution Guard at the wreath.
