226th Anniversary of Constitution Dinner – Springfield
Compatriots of the George Rogers Clark Chapter celebrated Constitution Week at dinner at the Springfield Marriott on September 18, 2013. Judge Richard P. Carey spoke on the importance of our Constitution – from September 17, 1787 – as the basis for defining America’s culture and it’s service as the compass for all other rules.
The George Rogers Chapter welcomed two new members and honored two Compatriots with special recognitions – Chapter Treasurer John Buffenbarger with the Lamplighter Award from the National Society SAR for financial support of the Center for Advancing America’s Heritage and Chapter President Terry Whetstone with a Liberty Medal (honoring membership recruitment) from the National Society SAR. President Whetstone’s medal was in the form of an oak leaf cluster, representing multiple awards of the Liberty Medal which recognizes his sponsorship of new SAR members – in this case more than sixty members.
